Online (EPFO / ESIC)
Apply through the unified portal with your KYC and employee details.
Then monthly returns
Once registered, file monthly ECR for PF and contributions for ESI, and deposit by the 15th.
The registration steps, and after
Registration is online and, for most businesses, done together through the government’s Shram Suvidha portal, which links to EPFO and ESIC. You provide the entity’s PAN, incorporation or registration proof, address proof, bank details, the date coverage became applicable, and the initial employee list with their wages and Aadhaar. The PF code and ESIC code are usually allotted quickly, often within a few days. After that the monthly cycle begins: for PF, generate and upload the ECR and pay by the 15th; for ESI, file contributions and pay by the 15th. Employees are assigned UANs for PF and insurance numbers for ESI, which stay with them across jobs, so onboarding each new joiner includes linking or generating these. Keeping the employee master — wages, joining and exit dates — accurate is what keeps the monthly returns clean. Errors at registration, such as a wrong coverage date, can create a back-period liability with interest, so the initial details are worth checking carefully before you submit.
