How long does GST registration take?

Short answerGST registration is usually granted within about 7 working days of a complete application — or up to 30 days if Aadhaar authentication isn’t done or the officer seeks documents or a physical verification. Completing Aadhaar authentication is the single biggest factor in getting it quickly.

The usual timeline

With Aadhaar authentication completed and a clean application, registration is typically approved in about 7 working days. If the department doesn’t act within the prescribed period, registration can be deemed granted. Confirm the current timelines, which are periodically tightened.

What causes delay

It stretches toward 30 days if Aadhaar authentication is skipped or fails, if the officer raises a query (REG-03) on your documents, or if a physical verification of the premises is ordered — now common to curb fake registrations. Mismatched address proof or a vague business description are frequent triggers. See the document checklist.

A worked example

Example: a proprietor who completes Aadhaar authentication and uploads a clear electricity bill and rent agreement gets the GSTIN in under a week. One who skips authentication, or whose address proof doesn’t match, faces a query and possibly a site visit, pushing it to three or four weeks. Getting the documents right upfront is what keeps it fast. Our team can file it cleanly.
