Reactivating, and avoiding a repeat
Reactivation is straightforward but not without cost: you file the pending DIR-3 KYC (full form or web service, as applicable) along with the ₹5,000 late fee, after which the DIN is restored and can be used again. There’s no separate approval step — the DIN reactivates on successful filing of the KYC with the fee. The real cost is usually the disruption: while the DIN was inactive, any board appointment, resignation, or annual filing needing that director’s signature was stalled, which can cascade into late fees on those other forms. To avoid a repeat, note the 30 September date in your annual compliance calendar, keep the director’s registered email and mobile current (the web KYC relies on OTPs to both), and complete it early in the season. For a company with several directors, completing all of them together in one sitting is the easiest way to make sure none is overlooked, and it costs nothing if done before the deadline.
