UNDERSTANDING THE REGISTRATION STACK

Udyam (MSME)

Free MSME registration giving the proprietorship a recognised identity. Required by most banks for current account opening. Issued under MSMED Act 2006.

GST Registration

Mandatory if turnover crosses Rs 20 lakh (services) / Rs 40 lakh (goods), or for inter-state supply or e-commerce. Voluntary registration common for B2B sellers.

Gumasta Licence

State-specific Shops & Establishments registration. In Maharashtra, under the 2017 Act. Required to open a current account in the trade name.

Transparent Pricing Structure

Statutory & Third-Party Costs – pass-through, NOT our fees

These are paid directly to government departments, certifying authorities, and banks. They are not VRS professional fees.

Engagement & Fees

We set up your proprietorship end-to-end — Udyam and GST registrations as applicable, documentation, and bank-account readiness — scoped to your business during an initial scoping call.

Fees are confirmed per engagement after the scoping call, based on the scope and complexity involved. You receive a clear, written quote before any work begins — no hidden charges.

Quoted per Engagement

The final quote depends on the scope, volume, and statutory complexity of your specific engagement.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I really need a Gumasta licence if I work from home as a freelancer?

Strictly under the Maharashtra Act, any commercial activity needs registration. Practically, freelancers working solo from home often skip Gumasta – but it is required to open a current account in the trade name.

Two reasons to register below threshold: (a) you are a B2B seller and your clients want a GST invoice to claim input credit, (b) you are on e-commerce platforms which mandate GST registration.

PTEC is for the proprietor – Rs 2,500/year, payable by 30 June. PTRC is for employees you pay. A solo freelancer needs only PTEC.

No. The proprietorship uses the proprietor’s PAN. For tax, you and the business are the same person.

Yes. Hiring triggers EPF (if 20+ employees), ESIC (if 10+ employees in covered area), PTRC (Maharashtra), and TDS deduction obligations.

Yes, if your business is a ‘specified profession’ under Section 44AA(1) – legal, medical, engineering, architecture, accountancy, IT consultancy. And if your gross receipts are <= Rs 75 lakh with cash receipts <= 5%.
